Concordia's licensing agreement with Access Copyright enables faculty to copy small portions of most published works for the purpose of education, research and higher learning. Most out-of-print works can be copied in their entirety, provided that the prescribed royalty fees are paid. Concordia pays an annual fee for these copying privileges.
Not all printed works are covered by the Access Copyright license. Please refer to the Post-Secondary Exclusions List to determine which publishers have opted out of the license.
All copies of published works distributed at no charge or sold to students must include the following:
This material has been copied under license from Access Copyright. Resale or further copying of this material is strictly prohibited
Copies of published works sold to students through the Bookstore must be reported to Access Copyright by Lynette Toews-Neufeldt, Concordia's Copyright Office (ext. 339). Please consult her before copying and selling any course packs containing excerpts from published works.

Playing a video or DVD in class at Concordia is lawful under Canadian copyright law under the following circumstances:
Concordia has two license agreements for audiovisual materials. The first is with Audio Cine Films Ltd. [ACF] that allows for the public performance of most major motion pictures on campus, provided they occur within a non-profit environment and within a strictly educational context. Concordia's ACF license gives us public performance rights to exhibit any feature film produced by the studios listed on ACF's website.
ACF requires us to report all such public performances on a quarterly basis. Please help Concordia comply with this requirement by reporting the play date, film title and production studio of all videos or DVDs played in class using our online form or directly to Lynette Toews-Neufeldt, Concordia's Copyright Officer (ext. 339).
The second license is with Criterion Pictures and it also allows for the public performance of most major motion pictures on campus, provided they occur within a non-profit environment and within a strictly educational context. Concordia's Criterion license gives us public performance rights to exhibit any feature film produced by the studios listed on the Criterion website.
Criterion Pictures requires us to report all such public performances on a monthly basis. Please help Concordia comply with this requirement by reporting the play date, film title and production studio of all videos or DVDs played in class using our online form or directly to Lynette Toews-Neufeldt, Concordia's Copyright Officer (ext. 339).
Concordia has licensing agreements with OneLicense.net and Christian Copyright Licensing International. These licenses allow for church music published by specific copyright holders to be copied onto paper or reproduced on an overhead or data projector, provided that the copyright holders are acknowledged and our institutional license number is included on the reproductions.

Any copying under the CCLI license must include the song title, a credit to the composer(s)/writer(s), a copyright notice (copyright date and publisher), and the CCLI license number. For example:

OneLicense.net - license #A-710727REPRINTING TITLES
A copyright acknowledgment must be printed on the bottom of the first page of each hymn or song reprinted under the OneLicense.net license. Include the symbol ©, the year of copyright, and the name of the copyright holder. In addition, the words "All rights reserved" and Concordia's license number (#A-710727) must appear with each piece, or once near the beginning or end of your booklet or bulletin with the other acknowledgements contained therein.
If words and music are by different writers and copyright owners, the following form would be appropriate:

All rights reserved. Reprinted under OneLicense.net #A-710727.
REPORTING
As a OneLicense.net license holder, Concordia University College of Alberta is required to report ALL titles used under the OneLicense.net license in order to ensure fair distribution of royalties to composers and authors. Contact Concordia's Campus Copyright Officer, Lynette Toews-Neufeldt, for instructions on how to report usage.
These licenses are limited to copying music for congregational use (e.g. chapel), not for use by choirs or instrumental groups. The main difference between the licenses is that each covers a different group of copyright holders. Faculty or students involved in chapel who wish to obtain a copy of the lists of copyright holders of either of these licenses should contact Lynette Toews-Neufeldt (ext. 339), Concordia's Copyright Officer.
